It is May
and an important event in this month is Mother's Day. On May 9th,
1914, President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation declaring the
first national Mother's Day as a day for citizens to show the flag
in honor of those mothers whose sons had died in war. I didn't know
that, did you? It appears that following the Civil War some women
had tried to reunify Northern and Southern mothers for this cause.
Many decades would pass before President Wilson's action. |
