Membership Agreement
Effective Date: 11/1/2026
This Membership Agreement (“Agreement”) is made and entered into on the date set forth above (“Effective Date”), by and between Santa Barbara Lawn Bowls Club, a California Nonprofit Mutual Benefit Corporation (“Club”), and the undersigned individual (“Member”).
1. MEMBERSHIP ELIGIBILITY
Membership is open to any individual who supports the mission of the Club and agrees to abide by the Club’s Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, and this Agreement.
Membership is conditional upon meeting all requirements established by the Board of Directors (“Board”), in its sole discretion.
Membership is officially conferred upon the Club’s receipt of a completed Membership Agreement and payment of applicable dues.
As a condition of membership, all Members must complete and sign the Waiver of Liability (Exhibit A) prior to participating in any Club activity or using Club facilities.
2. MEMBERSHIP DUES AND PAYMENT
2.1 Annual Dues
The current annual membership dues are Two Hundred Forty Dollars ($240) per member and cover the calendar year (January 1 – December 31). Dues are subject to change at the discretion of the Board, and members will receive reasonable advance notice of any changes.
2.2 Proration of Dues
Members who join on or after July 1 or October 1 of any calendar year will be charged a prorated amount in lieu of the full annual dues. The prorated rate for each period is determined by the Board and will be communicated to prospective members at the time of enrollment.
2.3 Accepted Payment Methods
The Club accepts the following forms of payment for dues and other charges:
Cash
Check (payable to “Santa Barbara Lawn Bowls Club”)
Credit card
By providing a payment method, the Member authorizes the Club to charge the designated account for all applicable fees, dues, and other charges associated with their membership.
2.4 Payment Schedule
Annual dues are due and payable on or before January 31 of each calendar year. Members who have already paid dues for the current calendar year prior to signing this Agreement are in good standing for that year; this Agreement governs all membership years going forward. For new members enrolling mid-year, dues (or the applicable pro-rated amount as shown in Section 2.2) are due and payable at the time of enrollment and upon signing this Agreement. The Club will endeavor to issue timely renewal reminders, but all Members are responsible for ensuring dues are paid on time.
2.5 Late Payments
Dues that remain unpaid thirty (30) days past the due date may result in the imposition of a late fee of $25 per month for each month the balance remains outstanding, at the Board’s discretion. Dues unpaid for ninety (90) days may result in suspension or termination of membership privileges, at the Board’s discretion.
3. SCHEDULE OF DUES AND FEES
A complete schedule of current dues and fees is set forth in Exhibit B, attached hereto. The schedule reflects the current annual dues of $240, applicable pro-ration rates, and any other fees as established by the Board from time to time.
4. MEMBERSHIP TERM AND RENEWAL
The membership term covers the calendar year (January 1 – December 31) in which dues are paid. For members enrolling mid-year, the term runs from the Effective Date of this Agreement through December 31 of that year. Membership renews automatically on an annual basis upon the Member’s payment of dues for the subsequent year. Renewal dues are due by January 31 of each new calendar year, after which the late fee(s) and suspension provisions of Section 2.5 may apply at the Board’s discretion.
5. MEMBERSHIP TERMINATION
5.1 Refunds and Cancellations
Members may resign at any time by submitting written notice to the Club. All outstanding dues and charges must be paid within thirty (30) days of submitting the resignation notice. Membership dues are non-refundable under all circumstances, including resignation or termination of membership.
5.2 Suspension or Termination
The Board reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend or terminate any membership for cause, including but not limited to:
Non-payment of dues: Dues remaining unpaid for ninety (90) days or more past due date.
Conduct violations: Failure to comply with the Club’s Code of Conduct, Bylaws, or City Rules and Regulations.
Conduct unbecoming a member: Any behavior deemed detrimental to the welfare, reputation, or operations of the Club or its members.
Prior to termination for cause other than non-payment, the Board will provide the Member with written notice of the alleged violation and an opportunity to respond within fourteen (14) days. The Board’s decision following such review shall be final.
A member whose membership has been terminated shall not be entitled to a refund of dues paid.
5.3 Effect of Termination
Upon termination or resignation, the Member shall immediately cease use of all Club facilities and forfeit any membership privileges. Reinstatement after termination is at the sole discretion of the Board.
6. MEMBER BENEFITS AND PRIVILEGES
Upon acceptance of membership and payment of dues, Members are entitled to the following benefits, subject to availability and the Club’s Rules and Regulations:

Full use of Club facilities and the clubhouse during operating hours.
Eligibility to participate in Club events, tournaments, leagues, and social programs, with additional fees where applicable.

In consideration of my present and future participation in Club activities, I, the undersigned, on behalf of myself, my heirs, and assigns, acknowledge and agree as follows:
ACTIVITIES AND ASSOCIATED RISKS. I acknowledge that participation in Club activities and use of Club facilities involve inherent risks that may result in personal injury, illness, death, or property damage. These risks include, without limitation, muscle strains, sprains, fractures, concussions, overuse injuries, cardiovascular events, and injuries from collisions with other participants or equipment. Additional risks include slips, trips, and falls on wet, slippery, or uneven surfaces throughout the premises. Use of the clubhouse, kitchen, barbeque, and picnic facilities presents risks of burns, cuts, foodborne illness, allergic reactions, and other injuries. Personal property may be subject to theft, damage, or loss while on Club premises or during Club activities.
ASSUMPTION OF RISK. I understand that the above is not an exhaustive list and that other risks, known or unknown, may result in injury, illness, death, or property damage. I voluntarily assume all such risks, whether arising from my own actions, the actions of others, or the ordinary negligence of the Club, the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department, or other visitors. I further understand that all Club facilities and equipment are used at my own risk without warranties of condition or suitability.
LIABILITY WAIVER & RELEASE. I hereby release, waive, and discharge the Club, the City of Santa Barbara, Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department, and their affiliates, successors, assigns, and related entities, along with their respective directors, officers, employees, volunteers, sponsors, agents, representatives, members, and managers (collectively, the “Released Parties”), from all liabilities, causes of action, claims and demands arising out of or related to my visit or participation in Club activities, including claims resulting from the ordinary negligence of the Released Parties. I agree not to sue or assert claims against the Released Parties for any injury, illness, death, or loss occurring at the Club facility, event, or activity.
I expressly waive all rights under California Civil Code Section 1542, which states: “A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party.”
I acknowledge that I understand this provision and voluntarily waive any rights it provides, intending to release all claims, known or unknown, to the fullest extent permitted by law.
INDEMNITY. I further agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless the Released Parties from any claims, liabilities, damages, or expenses arising from my actions or participation in Club activities at any location. This obligation extends to claims brought by third parties and shall survive the duration of my Club membership, if applicable, or participation for the maximum period permitted under California law. In the event of my death or disability, this Release shall be binding on my estate, heirs, and legal representatives.
PHYSICAL CONDITION & MEDICAL CARE. I acknowledge that participating in lawn bowling and Club activities involves physical exertion and may not be suitable for all health conditions. I confirm I am in good health and solely responsible for determining my ability to participate safely. I understand that neither the Club nor the City is responsible for providing medical care. I release and hold harmless the Released Parties from any claims related to the provision, delay, or failure of medical treatment.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHILDREN & GUESTS. I acknowledge that I am fully responsible for the safety, conduct, and supervision of any children or guests I bring to the Club premises or activities. This includes ensuring they use facilities safely and in accordance with Club Rules and City regulations. The Club does not provide supervision and is not responsible for coordinating or ensuring the safety of children. Children must be actively supervised by a parent or responsible adult at all times. I accept full liability for any injury, damage, or loss caused by my children or guests.
COMPLIANCE WITH RULES AND REGULATIONS. I agree to abide by all Club Rules and the City of Santa Barbara Parks and Recreation Department Rules, Regulations, and Code of Conduct, which may be updated at the Club’s or City’s discretion and are available upon request. I am responsible for ensuring that my children and guests also comply. I understand that alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited on City park property, including all Club premises at Spencer Adams Park. I will ensure all guests, including the parent or legal guardian of any minor guests, sign this Release before participating in Club activities. I understand that failure to comply may result in removal from Club premises or membership.
PHOTOGRAPHIC RELEASE. I understand that while participating in Club activities, I may be photographed, videotaped, or filmed. I agree to allow my photo, video, or film likeness to be used for any legitimate purpose by the Club, its sponsors, organizers, and assigns without compensation.
MISCELLANEOUS. This Release constitutes the entire agreement between the undersigned and the Club and City. It is an ongoing agreement which applies to all present and future Club visits, activities, and events at any location. This Release shall be construed broadly to maximize its enforceability.
